The life cycle of a coniferous tree can span centuries, and even after death, these trees remain embedded in the forest’s ecosystem, transforming into nurse logs. Nurse logs symbolize resilience, as even after death, they continue nurturing the land and mother the new growth of the forest ecosystem. Fungi, on the other hand, leads a precarious existence. Their fruiting body sometimes only exists for mere days before their inevitable decay, allowing for only a short burst of life. The juxtaposition of fungi and the nurse log is what inspired the installation of Life After Death.
